Digit is a two-legged robot built by Agility Robotics for moving boxes and totes in warehouses and logistics.
Digit is a bipedal robot made by Agility Robotics, a company that spun out of university research on walking robots. It stands roughly the height of an adult and walks on two legs with bird-like knees.
What it is for
Digit's job is plain: pick up totes and boxes and carry them short distances in warehouses and distribution centres. Companies are testing it to take over the heavy, repetitive moving that tires human workers.
Why two legs?
Warehouses are built for people: stairs, narrow aisles, pallets, doors. A robot with legs and arms can work in the same space without rebuilding the building. Wheeled robots are often cheaper and faster, so legs make sense only where the space is awkward.
Honest limits
Humanoid and bipedal robots are still new in commercial work. They are slower than wheeled robots, need careful safety rules around people, and have limited battery life. Real deployments are small, and performance claims should be checked against independent reports.
What to learn
Digit is a good example of a robot designed around one specific job rather than "doing everything".
Ask R2 Co-pilot anything you didn't understand about Digit (Agility Robotics). It'll explain it plainly.
